G L O O M

GLEAMLESS, LOW-LYING OOZES OF MURK--
Gleamless mist, with smokes of clotted cloud,
Low-lying, an enshrouding, wearing woe
as when an inner bruise
Oozes like a weeping wound. This masking
Of moon and stars dims them.Murk nulls nearer lights--and hopes.
Moist noises: busy bells, horns that morosely wail--
warn, too late for me.
I'm moored here
Among what gleamless, low-lying oozes
of murk and gloom.

GLOOM: LEADEN, ODEROUS, OOZING, MOANING:
GLOOM ranges over these waters--through my mind.
LEADEN is the dying light, late this day;
ODEROUS the mist wafted from the shoreling sloughs.
OOZING brackish waters vein this bay.
MOANING sounds: some seaman's hound?
Drop the anchor, furl the sails, and hope.
GLOOM with this LEADEN, ODEROUS OOZING, MOANING
Must wane with a new day's morning.
